Youth Programs

Plainfield Rescue Squad has made an active attempt to reach out to the young people in our area. The major emphasis of our cadet program and youth corps is to encourage young people into investigates careers in health care and emergency services.

The cadet program at PRS was started nearly 10 years ago. Today we have over 20 cadets and are actively looking for more. All the cadets are allowed to ride as part of the ambulance crew and are carefully monitored by the adult "crew chiefs". Cadets also elect their own officers and actively participate in the day to day runnings of the squad. Although it is not required, many of our cadets go on to become Emergency Medical Technicians.

PRS is a recognized site for a program called Youth Corps, which is affliliated with Jersey City State College Youth Corps sends "teams" of young people to sites all around the state. The members of Youth Corp that work at the PRS site staff the ambulances just like the rest of the membership. The members of Youth Corps are encouraged to become Emergency Medical Technicians.

PRS also works closely with an affiliate program of Youth Corps called Americorps. Americorps is a federal initiative to promote volunteerism in the United States, and provides a modest stipend and funding for college for its participants.
